This article reviews how to add or edit assigned contacts to your ZOLEO after you've activated your ZOLEO device. This is managed via your MyZOLEO account on the online portal. Please note contacts cannot be managed in the ZOLEO App. This article reviews:
What Are ZOLEO Contacts
ZOLEO contacts are set up on your online portal via www.myzoleo.com. There is no limit to the number of contacts you can save on your profile. These contacts can then be assigned to a ZOLEO.
During activation, the following number of contacts (which is the minimum for a ZOLEO) will be assigned:
- Two (2) SOS contacts
- One (1) Check-in contact
Note: You can have up to five (5) Check-in contacts assigned to a ZOLEO, and they can also be SOS contacts.
What is an SOS contact?
An SOS contact is who the emergency provider contacts during an SOS only if they require more information regarding the situation of the ZOLEO user. More information on what happens is found in What Happens During an SOS.
Requirements for SOS Contacts
Every ZOLEO device must have two designated SOS contacts. Emergency responders will attempt to reach one of these contacts randomly. Once contact with one is established, they will not attempt to contact the other.
Who can be an SOS contact?
Ideally, SOS contacts should be individuals who are familiar with your current location and can provide relevant information to emergency services. Suitable choices include family members, close friends, or trusted colleagues. It's recommended to avoid using third-party services as SOS contacts.
What is a Check-in contact?
A Check-in contact is someone who receives your Check-in messages from your ZOLEO. If you have Location Share+, they will also receive a breadcrumb trail showing your location updates on their ZOLEO App.
Who can be a Check-in contact?
A Check-in contact can be anyone you wish to keep informed about your whereabouts and well-being. The messages sent will say, "I'm OK, here's my location," along with a link to a map showing your location. You have the option to send these updates via SMS, email, both SMS & email, or through the ZOLEO App. You can also choose to disable location sharing if desired.
Managing MyZOLEO Contacts
You can easily manage the contacts saved to your MyZOLEO account, allowing you to update their email addresses, phone numbers, and preferred language settings, whether or not they are currently assigned to a device. If a contact is assigned to a device, any changes you make will automatically update their information accordingly.
These steps describe where to go to manage your contacts.
- Log in at www.myzoleo.com.
- Navigate to the SOS and Check-in Contacts menu. If on mobile, you can find this in the My Account drop-down menu under the account information.
- Here, you will see all saved contacts listed, and you can use the "Add contact" function to add a new contact to your account as well.
- You can make changes to any single contact already saved on your account as well by changing the information and hitting Save on their contact card.
- If this contact is associated with a ZOLEO, it will automatically update their information to be used there as well.
Important: If you want to use a contact as an SOS or Check-in contact on a ZOLEO device, you’ll need to assign them to a device by following the steps outlined in the following section.
How To Add or Remove Assigned Contacts
For a contact to become an active SOS or Check-in contact, they must be assigned to your active ZOLEO device. The following steps review how to add or change the assigned SOS and Check-in contacts on a ZOLEO device.
- Login to www.myzoleo.com.
- Go to the Devices & Plans menu. If on mobile, you can find this in the My Account drop-down menu under the account information.
- Under the device name go to Contacts (Contacts is a tab under the device name on the desktop version, if on mobile, go to the three dots ... on the right, then Contacts).
- To add or change contacts:
-
For SOS contacts:
- Select the existing contact you wish to change and replace it with the new contact information. Remember, you must always have two SOS contacts assigned.
-
For Check-in contacts:
- You can either replace an existing contact or select an empty field to add a new contact.
- In the "Contact Method" field, choose how the contact should receive Check-ins (SMS, Email, both, or via the ZOLEO App).
-
To add a new contact:
- Click "+ADD NEW CONTACT," complete the form, and hit "Save" in the popup.
-
For SOS contacts:
- To remove a contact, go to the contact's name field and select it. Go to REMOVE in the drop-down.
- Note: if this is your only Check-In contact, you must replace it by selecting a new contact's name in the list or going +ADD NEW CONTACT to create a new one.
- When done, hit the green Save All button at the very bottom
How to ensure a Check-In contact will receive Location Share+
Location share+ is sent only via the ZOLEO App, while check-ins will be sent according to a contact's contact method, which can be SMS, Email, both SMS & Email, or the ZOLEO App. To receive Location Share+ updates, the following must apply:
- Contact must be added and assigned to a device as a check-in contact.
- The contact information must use the same phone number they are using for the ZOLEO App.
