The following article describes how to send an SOS alert using both the ZOLEO device as a standalone, and also with the ZOLEO App.
Note: The ZOLEO App is not required to declare an SOS.
Via the ZOLEO Device:

Ensure the ZOLEO device is on and facing up with a clear view of the sky.

Lift the SOS protective cover.

Press & hold the SOS button for 3 seconds.
- A 10-second countdown will begin and the device will emit the emergency tone.
- The LEDs on the ZOLEO device will begin to SPIN RED (circle pattern).
- Important: Wait for the SOS alert to be sent.

When the SOS alert has been successfully sent:
- The ZOLEO device will emit a positive ascending tone.
- The SOS LED will begin to DOUBLE BLINK RED indicating SOS is ACTIVE.
Note 1: If the ZOLEO device is powered off and the SOS button is pressed for 3 seconds, it will power on and initiate an SOS alert.
Note 2: The SOS alert can be cancelled during the 10-second countdown if accidentally initiated. To cancel the alert, press & hold the SOS button for 5 seconds and the 10-second countdown will stop. The SOS alert will not be sent to the emergency response provider if cancelled during the 10-second countdown. For more information see: How to Cancel an SOS.
Via the ZOLEO App:

Ensure the ZOLEO device is face up with a clear view of the sky and is paired to the ZOLEO App on your smartphone.

Navigate to the SOS tab (bottom menu).

Press & hold the SEND SOS button for 3 seconds (until the button animation has ended).
- A 10-second countdown will begin.
- During this time, the SOS alert can be cancelled without alerting the emergency response provider. To cancel, tap the CANCEL SOS ALERT button.
- Once the countdown has ended, the SOS progress screen will be displayed.
- Important: Wait for your location coordinates and the SOS alert to be sent.

When the SOS alert has been successfully sent.
- The SOS banner at the top of the screen will show SOS ACTIVE.
- A CHAT NOW button will appear.
- Tap the CHAT NOW button to begin messaging with the SOS Response Agent.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
- The emergency response coordination provider will attempt to communicate with you via messaging over the ZOLEO app. If you are unresponsive, they will continue with the emergency response protocol. Local authorities or search and rescue services will be dispatched to your location.
- Until you cancel the SOS, an SOS alert containing your location coordinates is sent every six (6) minutes.
