This article explains what Check-In messages are and how to send them using your ZOLEO device or the ZOLEO app. With unlimited Check-Ins included in every active ZOLEO subscription, this feature allows you to quickly let your contacts know you're safe. Here's what we'll cover in this guide:
What Are Check-Ins?
Check-Ins are manual location updates you can send using the ZOLEO App or the ZOLEO device, allowing you to reassure your contacts that you’re safe.
All ZOLEO devices with an active subscription (Basic, In Touch, or Unlimited) offer unlimited Check-Ins, which do not count towards your monthly message limit.
You can send Check-Ins to up to five (5) contacts, which you manage via your MyZOLEO portal (not within the app). Learn how to manage your Check-In and SOS contacts in this article: ZOLEO SOS & Check-In Contacts.
Check-In messages can be sent via SMS (text message), email, both SMS and email, or the ZOLEO App. The message says, "I'm OK. My Location is..." and includes your coordinates and a link to a map. It also displays the ZOLEO device's battery level and is viewable on:
- SMS/Email: Opens the location in Google Maps.
- ZOLEO App: Opens the map directly within the app (see screenshots below).
How To Send a Check-In Using the ZOLEO App
Before sending a Check-In from the ZOLEO App, ensure the following apply:
- The ZOLEO device is powered on with a clear view of the sky.
- The ZOLEO App is linked to the device, displaying the Weather and SOS functions at the bottom of the screen.
If the SOS and Weather icons are visible, follow these steps to send a Check-In:
- Navigate to the Chats screen (bottom left icon in the app).
- Tap the Check-In button at the top of the screen (a green rectangle with a white checkmark inside).
- The Check-In will begin sending. The ZOLEO will emit a tone and flash green lights on the LEDs in a clockwise pattern while sending.
- Once sent, the tone will sound three times, and the flashing will stop. You can view the sent Check-In in your Check-In & Location Share+ thread within the app.
- If the Check-In fails, the LED will flash amber. You can attempt to send another, but keep in mind the device will try to send the message for only 7-10 minutes before the message expires.
How To Send a Check-In Using the ZOLEO Device
To send a Check-In from the ZOLEO:
-
Power on the ZOLEO: Ensure the device is on by checking the Power LED at the bottom right, which should be flashing.
- Note: You can send a Check-In whether the device is connected to the ZOLEO App or not.
-
Press the Check-In button briefly:
- Important: Do not press and hold the button, as this will attempt to start a Location Share+ session. If you don't have Location Share+, nothing will happen.
-
Once the Check-In button is pressed, the ZOLEO will emit a tone and the LEDs will flash green in a clockwise pattern while sending. The tone will repeat three times, and the lights will stop flashing once the message is sent successfully.
