Planning ahead can provide you with peace of mind and allow you to get ahead of any unforeseen circumstances. Your ZOLEO device is your communication lifeline beyond terrestrial coverage so it’s important to always check your ZOLEO app and device well ahead of an upcoming trip.
One week before travel:
-
Update the ZOLEO App:
- Ensure your ZOLEO app is up to date. While most smartphones automatically update apps, it’s a good idea to manually check for any outstanding updates in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
-
Charge and Power On Your ZOLEO Device:
- Fully charge your ZOLEO device and turn it on.
- You can review the article How to Charge your ZOLEO for more details.
-
Connect the ZOLEO App to Your Device:
- Open the ZOLEO app and confirm that it’s connected to your device.
- Check the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen:
- If you see three tabs (Chats, ZOLEO, and Settings), you need to link your device. Tap the "ZOLEO" tab and select your IMEI from the list to complete the connection.
- If you see four tabs (Chats, Weather, SOS, and Settings) along with the ZOLEO status bar, your app and device are connected.
-
Verify and Update ZOLEO Device Software:
- Ensure your ZOLEO device has the latest software version. ZOLEO software updates are packaged with the app, and you may be prompted to update the device after an app update.
- If prompted, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.
- To manually check for updates, go to Settings > My Connected ZOLEO Device > About My Device > Device Software Update.
- Software updates are completed via Bluetooth and do not require cellular data or Wi-Fi connectivity.
-
Prepare for Your Trip:
- Once everything is up to date and your device is fully charged, turn off your ZOLEO device to conserve battery until your trip.
One to three days before travel:
-
Verify Your ZOLEO Service Plan:

- If your device was suspended, follow the instructions on How to Restart your Plan.
- If your device was deactivated, follow the instructions on How to Reactivate your Plan.
-
Test Your ZOLEO Device:
- After confirming your service is active, send a test message or Check-In to ensure it is received by the intended recipient. Instructions on how to send a Check-In can be found at How to Send a Check-In Message.
