Location Share+ is a location awareness safety tool used by ZOLEO users to give their contacts extra peace of mind by automatically sharing location updates at regular intervals which are displayed using a breadcrumb trail on a detailed topographic map in the ZOLEO app.
As a Check-In contact of a ZOLEO user who has subscribed to Location Share+, you’ll be required to install the ZOLEO app and sign up for a free app account. It’s as simple as downloading the ZOLEO app and entering your name and phone number to complete the sign-up process. Visit the Apple App Store or Google Play to download the free ZOLEO app. If you already have the ZOLEO app installed, please ensure that your ZOLEO app is updated to version iOS: 6.0.4 (162) and Android: 6.0.3 (127) or higher.
Once you’ve completed the sign-up process, you’re all set and ready to begin messaging with other ZOLEO app users and viewing automatic location updates from those that have set you as their Check-In contact. You will receive notifications when the ZOLEO user has started and ended their location sharing session, and optionally with each periodic update. You also get some added convenience controls for filtering messages and controlling audible notifications.
This article covers viewing location updates, filtering messages, and controlling notifications for location updates.
Viewing location updates using the ZOLEO app
1. Open the ZOLEO app on your smartphone or tablet.
2. On the Chats tab, tap on the new message received from the ZOLEO user.
3. A map tile will appear for the automatic location update i.e. "My location is...". Tap on the map tile to view the location details on the map.
Note: As more automatic location updates are received, a breadcrumb trail will begin to form.
4. Use the left ( < ) and right ( > ) arrows to navigate the breadcrumb trail and view the path traveled. Each breadcrumb is numbered, includes GPS location coordinates in the format of latitude/longitude, and a timestamp.
Tip: You can pan and zoom the map to get a closer look at the ZOLEO users’ location and surroundings, and you can collapse the breadcrumb details by using the down-arrow to increase the visibility of the map.
5. Once the user has turned off their ZOLEO device or has stopped their Location Share+ session, an end-marker of a flag will be displayed indicating that the session is no longer active and has ended.
Important: By default, Location Share+ is set to only send location updates if the ZOLEO user has moved more than 50 meters – this is controlled by ZOLEO users can be turned off if desired. If the user has not moved more than 50 meters a message will appear with the next location update indicating “No movement reported since: date & time”. Another location update will not be sent until the ZOLEO user moves than 50m. This helps keep the breadcrumb trail clutter-free and easy to follow. Should the user turn the Location Share+ No Movement Updates feature off, continuous location updates will be sent at the regular interval, even if the user stays in the same location.
