We’re very pleased to bring you some exciting new enhancements to our Check-In and Location Share+ features that you’ve all been asking for. We’re thrilled to tell you about them, so let’s dive right in!
Least cost routing for Check-Ins
Check-in messages now use ZOLEO’s signature least cost routing. This means that you can enjoy even more value by saving on satellite messages and let other know you’re OK even quicker when sending check-in messages if Wi-Fi or cellular data network connectivity is available. Check-in messages sent via internet are free of charge and do not come off of your monthly service plan’s message allotment.
Check-in with others using the ZOLEO app
Using the online ZOLEO My Account portal, you can now set your contacts to receive check-in messages using their ZOLEO app. This is super handy for those already using the ZOLEO app for app-to-app messaging and Location Share+ updates. Now recipients can receive all messages, including check-ins, directly in the ZOLEO app and keep all communications centralized.

Viewing Location Share+ sessions
Location Share+ automatic location updates are no longer displayed as single entries by default, they’re now bundled together into sessions for better organization and a cleaner viewing experience for you and your Location Share+ contacts. Location Share+ sessions can be expanded and collapsed to view individual location updates and tapping on any update still takes you into the map view where you can view the breadcrumb and location details.

Location Share+ meets the ZOLEO status bar
The ZOLEO status bar located at the bottom of the app is a great tool that give you a quick bird’s-eye view into the status of your ZOLEO device, including battery strength, satellite signal and last/next message check. The status bar will now also display when a Location Share+ session is active, and when expanded, it will show when the next location update will be sent.
Flagging the end of a Location Share+ Session (literally!)
Turning off Location Share+ now identifies the end of a session to you and your contacts by adding a flag marker to the last location update that was sent. This makes it easier for you and your Location Share+ contacts to know that you’ve stopped location sharing and give your contacts additional peace of mind while you’re out adventuring the backcountry.
