This article explains how to safely test the SOS feature on your ZOLEO.
Before testing SOS, you must receive authorization from Global Rescue. This prevents false emergency alerts and ensures your test is handled correctly.
Note: These instructions apply to the ZOLEO. Testing instructions for the ZOLEO 1500 are not yet available.
Request an SOS Test
Global Rescue, the emergency response coordination provider for ZOLEO, monitors all SOS alerts and coordinates search and rescue activities. Before testing SOS, you must request authorization from Global Rescue.
You can request an SOS test using one of the following methods.
Option 1 – Request an SOS Test from the ZOLEO App (Version 6.5 or Later)
- Using your ZOLEO app, connect to your ZOLEO device.
Open the SOS tab in the bottom navigation bar.
Tap the Menu button (three dots) in the upper-right corner of the screen.
Select Schedule SOS Test.
Tap on Request SOS Test.
Next, tap Yes to confirm that you would like to request an SOS test.
Your request will be sent to Global Rescue. Check the SOS Test Instructions in the chat and wait for authorization.
Option 2 – Request an SOS Test by Email
Using your ZOLEO app, connect to your ZOLEO device.
Tap the Chats tab (speech bubble icon) in the bottom-left corner of the app.
Tap the New Message button (pencil icon) in the upper-right corner of the Chats screen.
In the Type a name or number field, enter sostest@globalrescue.com.
Select Use this contact.
Send a message requesting authorization to test the SOS feature on your ZOLEO.
Global Rescue is available 24/7 and will reply within 5 minutes to authorize your request.
Perform the SOS Test
IMPORTANT: Only continue after Global Rescue has authorized your SOS test.
- Once authorized to proceed, ensure your ZOLEO has a clear view of the sky.
- Send an SOS alert using your ZOLEO device or the ZOLEO App by following How To Send an SOS.
- Wait for confirmation that the SOS alert has been successfully sent.
- Global Rescue will reply to confirm that they have received your SOS alert.
If the SOS alert was initiated from the ZOLEO device:
- The device emits a positive ascending tone.
- The LED indicators confirm that the SOS alert is active (reference page 15 of the Quick Start Guide).
If the SOS alert was initiated from the ZOLEO App:
- A confirmation message appears in the Response Agent chat.
- You can reply to the Response Agent through the chat if needed.
Cancel the SOS Test
Once Global Rescue confirms they have received your SOS alert, cancel the SOS by following the instructions in How To Cancel an SOS.
An ascending tone will confirm the cancellation has been successfully sent, and the LEDs will stop.
Wait for confirmation that the SOS cancellation has been successfully sent before ending the test.
