App-to-app messages
App-to-app messages are sent between ZOLEO App users. When you send an app-to-app message from your ZOLEO device, it travels over the satellite network (or WIFI or cellular data if available), just like your satellite SMS and email messages. On the receiving end, your contact receives and replies using the free ZOLEO App on their phone, which uses their internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data) to deliver the message.
This means your contacts don't need a cellular or satellite connection or a ZOLEO device to reach you — they just need the ZOLEO App and an internet connection on their end.
Advantages over SMS
- App-to-app messages can be up to 900 characters, compared to 160 characters for SMS.
- Your messages will be delivered regardless of your contact's SMS availability in a country, since messages travel over the internet to your contact rather than through mobile carriers.
- Messages are not subject to carrier filtering, so they're delivered as sent.
Message status indicators
App-to-app messages display status indicators beneath each message so you always know whether your message has been received and read.
If no tick is visible yet, the message is still on its way.
Email messages
During activation, you choose a unique designated ZOLEO email address for your device, which enables you to send emails from your ZOLEO App. Emails sent from your ZOLEO App will appear to recipients as coming from this designated email address. Emails are limited to 194 characters. This includes the email title.
To receive emails when you lack internet coverage, share your ZOLEO email address with your contacts (this can be found in your app and online account).

SMS messages
During activation, your unique ZOLEO SMS number is allocated to your ZOLEO communicator. If you want to be contactable via SMS when no internet coverage is available, share your ZOLEO SMS number with your contacts (found in your app and online account).
