What Location Share+ Contacts Receive

Location Share+ is a location awareness safety tool that allows you to automatically share your location with selected contacts, offering peace of mind through regular updates shown on a detailed topographic map in the ZOLEO app.

As a Check-In contact of a ZOLEO user subscribed to Location Share+, you’ll need to install the ZOLEO app and create a free account by entering your name and phone number. Download the ZOLEO app from the Apple App Store or Google Play, and make sure it's updated to iOS: 6.0.4 (162) or Android: 6.0.3 (127) or higher. You can refer to How to Install the ZOLEO App.

Once signed up, you can message other ZOLEO app users and view automatic location updates. You’ll receive notifications when Location Share+ sessions start, end, or periodically (based on preferences). You can also filter messages and manage notification settings.

Viewing Location Updates in the ZOLEO App:

1. Open the ZOLEO app on your smartphone or tablet.
2. On the Chats tab, tap on the message received from the ZOLEO user.
3. A map tile for the location update will appear. Tap it to view location details on the map.
4. Use the left (<) and right (>) arrows to navigate the breadcrumb trail, which shows each location update with GPS coordinates in the format of latitude/longitude, and timestamps.
   • Tip: You can pan and zoom the map to get a closer look at the ZOLEO users’ location and surroundings, and you can collapse the breadcrumb details by using the down arrow to increase the visibility of the map. 
5. When the user stops sharing or turns off their device, a flag marker will indicate the session has ended.

Important: Location updates are sent only if the user moves more than 50 meters. If no movement is detected, a message will display "No movement reported since [date & time]," and no update will be sent until the user moves again.

 This helps keep the breadcrumb trail clutter-free and easy to follow. Should the user turn the Location Share+ No Movement Updates feature off, continuous location updates will be sent at regular intervals, even if the user stays in the same location.

Filtering Messages in a Conversation:

1. Open the ZOLEO app.
2. In the Chats tab, select the conversation thread containing location updates.
3. Use the three (3) filters at the top as desired:
   • All – Shows all messages and location updates.
   • Messages – Shows only text messages.
   • Updates – Shows only location updates.

Managing Location Update Notifications:

Notifications for automatic location updates are turned off by default, but you will still receive notifications (visual and audible) when a ZOLEO user starts and stops their session. If you would also like to receive notifications with each periodic location update, you will need to turn notifications on.

1. Open the ZOLEO app on your smartphone or tablet.
2. On the Chats tab, select a conversation thread with location updates.
3. Tap the Updates filter, then tap the Speaker icon (top right).
4. Choose your notification preference:
   • Enable – Receive audible notifications for each update.
   • Disable – Only receive notifications when sessions start or stop.
   • Cancel – Go back without changing settings.
